While in the Art Program at UC Santa Cruz I discovered Javanese puppetry (wayang) and went off on a Fulbright Grant to learn how it is done. After nearly a year in Java and Bali, I wandered around Germany and England for half a year performing in museums. I landed back in Boston and I eventually went back to grad school at Brown to study theatre and many years later finished my Ph.D. at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Just got my 20 years of service pin from EIU. I really enjoy teaching and the endless job of learning.
